Mukha-Shirodhara Treatment

Rooted in Ayurvedic beliefs, Mukha-Shirodhara combines ancient Indian healing systems called Ayurvedic Face Therapy (or “Mukha Abhyanga”) and Ayurvedic Head Oil Therapy (or “Shirodhara”) to help patients regain balance in their bodies and minds. Participants of Chiva-Som Academy’s Mukha-Shirodhara course will be guided through the rich history and many aspects of this treatment and will learn to perform massages on the face, neck and upper shoulder area and use warm oil dripping techniques to heal the nervous system.

Course Objectives

By the end of the Mukha-Shirodhara course, participants will understand the theories behind Ayurvedic Mukhabhyanga Face Therapy and Shirodhara treatments and recognise their indications, contra-indications and benefits. Moreover, participants will be able to perform Ayurvedic Mukhabhyanga Face Therapy and Shirodhara treatments safely and effectively.


Course Topics

The Mukha-Shirodhara course will introduce participants to the key principles of Ayurveda, including the law of macrocosm and microcosm and the five great elements. The course will also cover the three bio-humours (Doshas) and their functions, sites, and qualities as well as their key governing laws and their basic constitutions. Moreover, the course will cover Ayurvedic disease pathology and diagnosis methods, and course instructors will help participants practice Mukhabhyanga and Shirodhara, including consultations and aftercare, in a real spa environment.


Examinations

The Academy will conduct both theoretical and practical examinations towards the end of the course.


Certification

After successfully completing the course and examinations, participants will receive a CSIA Certificate of Student Attendance in Mukha-Shirodhara treatment.
